Hillsborough & District Motor Cycle Club born in 1947 in the old Pigeon Hall in Ballynahinch Street Hillsborough and now in the 77th year organising and promoting everything from The Iveagh Cup Trial held in the Dromara hills on what used to be The Rib Road just out of Finnis, Dromara.

Grass Track on Saturdays and Wednesday nights racing in every Field we could borrow. The Will’s Trophy Scramble sponsored by W.D & H.O Wills. and the first fully televised motor cycle racing event ever in N.I.

Then we moved on to our first Short Circuit race at the old Maghaberry Airportin the middle 1970’, From there to the St Angelo Airport Enniskillen.Then Aghadowey for the very first Sunflower Trophy in 1977. On again to Kirkistown and for some years at Bishopscourt, thanks to Jim O’Brien.

Like everything else in this world we’ve had our ups and downs but the riders and characters in the Club and the past Sunflower list of winners is somethingwe are immensely proud of.

We are also very grateful to all the loyal Sponsors and Advertisers throughou tall those years. In particular Jim Finlay who’s been our Principal Sponsor, friend and the Club’s main stay all the way since 1977. A record all by itself!

We’ve had a lot of real good riders, Irish Champions, in the Club all the way from Trials to The Sunflower. Not only good riders but equally important good workers in the Club for the good of this great sport.

Back a bit in time not many will know that Hillsborough member Cecil McCullough, on a 350cc BSA Gold Star, won the race and still holds the lap record at Bangor Park. That’s going back a day or two but the same enthusiasm all the way to the wonderful list of winners and World Champions that have ridden in and won the Sunflower.

Sometimes it’s been a rocky but great road, but, the support the other Clubs all give us, and each other, and you the legion of spectators, without whose support it just wouldn’t be the great sport it is and --- 13 World Champions winners to boot What other Sport can claim that.
